Day skiing at Ski Portillo
Only two hours away from Santiago, skiers can find amazing skiing at Ski Portillo. Uncrowded slopes, skiing above treeline and breathtaking views await those who make the journey. Slopes at Portillo are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., so you can make the most of your ski day. Our rental shop features equipment for skiers of all levels and ages as well as tuning services. To top things off, day visitors can enjoy on-mountain dining at Tio Bob’s or the Ski Box for the ultimate mountain ski experience.
Ski Portillo welcomes a limited amount of day visitors. Before planning your visit, be sure to check our information channels - website and call the front desk, for road closures. After considerable snowfall, the highway authority might close the road for maintenance and plowing.
Our webcams are always active, so you can easily check the weather conditions at the resort to and help you plan your trip.
Located two hours from Santiago, the road to Portillo is fairly easy, thanks to the highway that covers half of the trip. Apps like Waze and Google Maps will help you easily navigate your way to the resort.
If you don't want to drive, you can book shared (subject to availability) or private transport through Portillo Tours and Travel to and from Santiago. Buses to Mendoza can often accommodate a stop at Portillo, if confirmed when you purchase a ticket.
If you are driving, check for road closures before departing by calling Hotel Portillo or Carabineros Guardia Vieja.
Skiers visiting for the day can access the resort directly from the parking lot by visiting the lift ticket window located to the left of the main entrance to the hotel (the yellow side). If you are bringing your own equipment, you are ready to go once you purchase a ticket, otherwise visit our ski shop located on the lower level of the hotel.
Day visitors can access certain hotel areas and services including the lobby and bathrooms, the cafeteria, on-mountain restaurants.
There are no alternative lodging options at Ski Portillo other than the Hotel Portillo, Chalets, Octagon and Inca Lodges. The nearest town with hotels is Los Andes, a one-and-a-half hour drive away from Portillo
Our slopes open at 9 a.m., so we recommend planning leaving Santiago at least 2 hours before then to make the most of your day. The slopes close at 5pm, so you can have a full ski day before heading back to Santiago or Mendoza.
Lift tickets can only be purchased at the resort, in person. There are several options of lift tickets including full day, half day and seasonal. Lift tickets can be purchased at the ticket windows located outside the hotel on the yellow end, by the sightseeing overlook. Lift ticket sales can be limited by the resort to prevent overcrowding or due to snow conditions, be sure to check if lift tickets are being sold before making the trip.

The Ski Box is ideal for beginner and intermediate skiers looking for a quick break or a full lunch stop, with snacks, sandwiches and drinks in a gorgeous outside seating with views of the mountains, lake and the Corralito and Las Lomas slopes.
Tio Bob’s is a Portillo classic. Intermediate skiers and above can access Tio Bob’s off of the Plateau lift, and ski down (strong intermediate skiers or above). Tio Bob’s offers delicious grilled cuisine including the class Portillo burger, salmon, chicken, steak and more along with salad and other sides. Tio Bob’s offers stunning panoramic mountain and lake views.
The Cafeteria in the hotel is a convenient option for a quick meal inside before returning to the slopes, especially if you have non-skiers joining you for lunch.
