The intermediate runs at Portillo are great for skiers looking for rolling, wide groomers with plenty of vertical feet, family friendly terrain as well as smooth off-piste runs with no moguls. Kids & Teens own mountain playground

Intermediate kids and teens will find that the slopes at Portillo become their own private playground with all sorts of fun for young skiers and snowboarders. Compared to a massive resort with hundreds of runs, trees and different hotels, Portillo is a safe haven where kids quickly learn their way around the mountain and back to the hotel.

Adult skiers and snowboarders will enjoy the variety of the intermediate terrain at Portillo, whether it’s long rolling hills to cruise down smoothly or short and sweet descents that can be skied fast. Uncrowded slopes provide the feeling of safety, freedom and exclusivity, giving the illusion of a private resort with slopes to yourself. No need to worry about high traffic areas, lift lines or even moguls.

Intermediate Favorites

Intermediate kids and teens love Bajada del Tren, an easy blue run with a twist - skiing through a railroad tunnel (with a surprise as you enter). Intermediate adults will love cruising down the long and rolling Juncalillo, best skied in the mornings (it gets the sun first), this run is known for offering views of the entire valley as well as peaceful descents under sunny skies.

Racing

Intermediate skiers of all ages are invited to the weekly “Sol de Portillo” ski race on Thursdays. Show off any skills learned throughout the week while racing against the clock in this exciting event. Kids and teens in lessons are encouraged to participate in the ski school race against the peers in their group, and earn prizes at the Thursday evening awards ceremony.

Insider Tip

Portillo has a wide variety of intermediate runs and it’s important to note the different skills needed to conquer them all. Knowing how the runs compare against each other, and what “shade of blue” they are. For example, Escuela 2 and Las Lomas range on the easier side of intermediates while David’s run and Juncalillo are on the more difficult end for intermediates. Not sure where to go first? Intermediate slopes - Blue runs

El Gaucho, Las Lomas, Los Canarios, Bajada del Tren, Juncalillo, Conejo, David's Run, Descenso, Los Zorros are all intermediate runs at Portillo.

Intermediate Skier Abilities:

They have already mastered stops and speed control. Skiers at this level make parallel turns and begin exploring different types of terrain, including some off-piste.

Las Lomas

The best slope for skiers who are beginning to move to blue level slopes. The friendly slope and openness of Las Lomas, give skiers freedom and control, in an empty space and with beautiful views of the surroundings.

Juncalillo

An iconic run that intermediate skiers will love. You will enjoy the feeling of freedom and adventure as you turn down this open and gentle slope with rolling hills. This dynamic and fun track is best skied in the morning: Juncalillo gets the sun before all the other slopes on the mountain.

Adaptive Skiing Lessons

Skiers with physical or learning disabilities can fall in love with the sport of skiing with the help of our adaptive ski coaches. Adaptive skiing is common at Ski Portillo, with ski instructors trained to teach skiers with a variety of disabilities. Adaptive skiers will also enjoy the warm, comfortable hotel facilities with it’s friendly intimate atmosphere, gourmet dining and daily activities and entertainment schedule.

Group Ski Lessons

The Portillo ski & snowboard school offers Ski lessons for adults & kids to learn to ski, whilst having fun and enjoying the beauty of the mountains. With flexibility to suit everyone’s needs, group ski lessons are available on a daily basis with sessions during the morning and afternoon. Guests can choose to join for a day, several days or a full week of ski lessons for adults or ski lessons for kids.
